The disruption to education caused by COVID-19 changed the way students learn, and challenged states, districts, and educators to re-evaluate how students are assessed. In many ways, this disruption accelerated opportunities to improve student assessment. By listening to our stakeholders and focusing on consistency, accountability, and innovation, we’re taking steps to help students, educators, and families better understand where students really are right now.
One significant step we’ve taken is the acquisition Navvy Education, the creator of a formative assessment system for US education that uses data to allow for feedback on individual standards, keeping reporting reliable and keeping the assessments short. Navvy’s technology is helping teachers, and students navigate learning by providing ongoing, real-time, and actionable information about student progress. This addition to our assessment services has great potential to help K-12 districts integrate assessments with their classroom instruction. We are excited to add Navvy’s technology to our leading portfolio of assessment services.
We also know how important it is for students and their families to clearly understand their assessment results. That is why we’ve improved how we deliver results, with reports that are clear and provide useful information to help families from any background understand the data they’ve been given about their students’ performance and progress. Spotlight Education, which Pearson acquired in 2021, works with schools and districts to deliver millions of personalized reports, offered in over 30 different languages. These reports help to bring equity to education by ensuring that language is not a barrier to understanding student performance. And they give educators and parents the opportunity to make the most informed decisions about a student's education.
As learning experiences continue to evolve, we’re innovating to meet challenges and create opportunities. By investing in new and existing services to improve assessments and communicate about learning progress from kindergarten through high school, we are enriching learning experiences for every student.
