Pearson and Uzbekistan Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Partner in Major Education Reform Push
New Collaboration Introduces Coveted BTEC Qualifications to Support Country's Growth Vision
LONDON - 27 May 2025 - This week Pearson (FTSE: PSON.L), the world’s lifelong learning company, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation in Uzbekistan (MHESI) signed a contract for BTEC qualifications to be offered in technical schools, known as ‘technicums’, across the country.
This is part of the government’s drive to enhance the quality and reach of vocational education, and to ensure that their vocational skills curriculum meets the economic needs of the nation, during its drive to grow and improve Vocational and Higher Education in the country up to 2030.
Pearson will support the delivery of International BTEC Level 3 qualifications in Business, Engineering, IT and Hospitality starting with 14 technicums, training 150+ vocational and technical teachers nationwide to deliver the qualifications effectively. Pearson will work closely with the MHESI for the successful delivery of the BTEC courses - including recommending resources, training teachers, learning resources and providing first line support during the roll out.
Jane Baker, VP of Business Development UK and International at Pearson, commented:
"We're honoured to partner with Uzbekistan's government in this transformative educational venture. Their bold 2030 vision recognizes BTECs as catalysts for vocational and economic excellence. These dynamic qualifications bridge classroom theory with workplace reality, equipping students with the precise skills that employers and universities seek. Together, we're unlocking Uzbekistan's human potential and helping people live the life they imagine through learning."
Otabek Makhamov, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan said:
“The integration of international educational programs into Uzbekistan's vocational education system offers a valuable opportunity to prepare competitive mid-level professionals in alignment with the demands of both domestic and international labour markets.”
Pearson’s internationally recognised BTECs are developed and validated in partnership with educators, employers and governments, to ensure that content reflects the needs of the workforce. They support students with practical, hands-on learning experiences at every step of their career journey, whether they choose to take their skills straight into employment or to further and higher education.
BTEC qualifications are recognised by universities globally, including in the UK, US, Australia, Canada, and the MENA region.
