Product strategy
Your expertise and the content you create contribute to learning experiences that will have real-life impacts for millions of students. Our product strategy is guided by learning science and insights, faculty preferences, and technology that is stable, secure, and accessible.
To achieve our technology goals, we continue to enhance our infrastructure so that we can innovate faster on our leading courseware platforms, MyLab, Mastering, and Revel.
As we enhance our platforms, the roadmap for innovation includes more personalized products and vibrant educational experiences that will enrich students and accommodate instructors. New technology and design assets are delivering next-generation experiences in eText, study and tutoring tools, and materials such as our Interactive Labs.
Pearson+
A major part of our strategy is building stronger relationships with students. By better understanding student consumption preferences, we will be better positioned to create learning experiences that will help them succeed.
Pearson+ is our direct-to-consumer experience that gives students simple and affordable access to educational content. Author input, along with student participation during development, helped us launch Pearson+ in 2021.
The FAQs here are based on author feedback and provided to help answer your questions.
Pearson+ is a new mobile and desktop subscription learning experience that will change the way students access their eTexts and study resources. It has been designed with student input to offer college students the affordable, flexible, convenient access to the eTexts and study tools they need for college success.
Pearson+ is part of Pearson’s expanded direct-to-consumer strategy. Pearson is working to build stronger relationships with students and meet their expectations by creating world class digital learning experiences with flexible pricing. We are best suited to provide this experience by directly engaging with students through our market-leading platforms.
Pearson+ will be anchored by more than 1,500 Pearson eTexts, many with enhanced features. Students who are assigned eTexts through Mastering or MyLab can access those eTexts through Pearson+. MyLab, Mastering and Revel are not available through Pearson+ currently. These solutions which combine assignable course-specific content and assessments, continue to be a major Pearson priority.
Inclusive Access is an important program for higher education institutions, faculty and students and Pearson ebooks will remain available through Inclusive Access. Inclusive Access does not currently include Pearson+.
Earlier this year we conducted conjoint pricing research with a major third-party consultant to inform our Pearson+ pricing strategy.
Pearson+ will be priced in two tiers and offer a monthly payment model that aligns with how students are accustomed to purchasing media, products, and services. Students will be able to access one Pearson eText for $9.99 per month or unlimited Pearson eTexts for $14.99 per month. Every subscription will carry a 4-month minimum subscription period.
Our pricing strategy gives students more flexibility, choice and affordability, and we believe it is also fair to our authors. We believe this approach will make us more competitive in the marketplace and help us recapture sales that are lost to the secondary market.
Royalties for Single tier subscriptions will be calculated for the selected title based on net cash received from each subscriber.
The monthly subscription fee paid by each Multi tier subscriber will be entered into a pool for that month, and royalties from Multi tier subscriptions will be calculated based on that monthly pool. On a monthly basis, the Multi subscription fee pool will be divided among those titles for which one or more Multi tier subscribers reached the minimum usage threshold for that title. Royalties will then be calculated by applying the royalty rate against the portion of the pool attributed to the relevant title.
Our minimum usage threshold was determined with the help of experienced data scientists, data analysts, and business analysts who examined existing usage data from current Pearson products, third party products, and practices across the media industry. We will continue to calibrate this threshold as more data specific to this subscription service becomes available.
We encourage authors to contact their product and content managers to learn more.

Yes. College bookstores will continue to carry access codes and/or print editions of Pearson texts.
Pearson+ is being introduced to the market with a robust marketing campaign to inform and educate students and faculty. Pearson+ will create a marketing lift for many Pearson titles. We will also continue to aggressively market our Revel, MyLab and Mastering platforms so that students and faculty are informed and aware of Pearson’s leading digital learning experiences.
Pearson+ will advance our commitment to accessibility by providing eTexts that deliver enhanced accessibility features including built in text to speech functionality, and adjustable display settings, along with native screen reader support. We will continue to strive to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards in Pearson+ and all our products.
We work hard to protect our Intellectual Property. We will apply device and download limitations, watermarking, and encryption to limit file sharing. We also have robust activity monitoring in place to detect abusive behavior including rapid page loads, bulk title access, and other activities.
Pearson+ will only be available in the U.S. at launch. Our goal is to make it available to students outside of the U.S. We will share more information when it is available.
