This month, Pearson joined many other businesses in the UK to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week (NAW). It was a time to shine a light on the positive impact apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy. We held a packed schedule of events to honour the achievements of our 85 current employee apprentices. This culminated with the Pearson Employee Apprenticeship Awards at the beautiful Stationers’ Hall in the City of London.

Adam Martis, Associate Software Quality Engineer Apprentice at Pearson, scooped the ‘Making your Mark’ award. “I had a great time attending the event and I’m so pleased to have won. I’m grateful to all my colleagues for supporting me through my apprenticeship, especially to my managers Shipla Yadav and Pallavi Sateesh Deshpande.” Pallavi, Director of Portfolio Delivery, was equally thrilled for Adam. “This event was special for me. Adam is the first software QA apprentice in our team. Witnessing his journey from apprentice to award-winner has been truly inspiring and I see it as a huge win for the whole Tech team.”

The theme of this year’s NAW was ‘Skills for Life’, focusing on how people can develop the skills and knowledge they need for a rewarding career, and how employers can develop a workforce with skills that are fit for the future. This theme is close to our hearts at Pearson, where we're on a mission to build a world where everyone can connect their skills to new opportunities and better career outcomes, and organisations can maximise the potential of their people. Apprenticeships are an excellent way to develop on-the-job skills and prepare people of all ages for fulfilling careers.

Senior Growth Marketing Manager and apprenticeship advocate, Adrian Lloyd-Brown, agrees: “Contrary to common belief, apprenticeships aren’t exclusively for beginners or early career professionals; they’re a dynamic tool for seasoned professionals too. For example, a university degree in Marketing from five or more years ago might not cover today’s sought-after digital marketing skills or knowledge. Apprenticeships keep us on track, ensuring relevance and providing the necessary skills to stay ahead in the ever-changing job landscape, while earning a living.

Our Employee Apprenticeship programme is one of the many ways we support people throughout their learning lifetimes, with vibrant and enriching learning experiences designed for real-life impact. As the need to upskill and reskill across a lifetime becomes more pressing, our apprentices embody the spirit of curiosity and career learning that will propel them to success in today's world. It’s a great pleasure to invest in their talent and help them develop ‘Skills for Life.’
