Pearson at AWS re:Invent: Learning is a superpower as AI redefines roles, workflows, and skills

Ray Murray, Pearson’s Global Revenue Officer for Enterprise & Government

It's great to be at AWS re:Invent this week, where industry leaders come together to learn, network, and shape the future. Among the many conversations with customers and partners, one theme rises above the rest: AI is reshaping jobs, so how do we successfully embrace this change as the pace of technological change outstrips human skills.

The tech sector is both at the forefront of this change and adjusting to the impact on its own workforce.  Our latest Skills Outlook report showed that, by 2029 those working in key tech roles could save around a day a week by using new technologies effectively for certain tasks. For employers, this isn’t just about efficiency, it’s a chance to redirect time towards strategic, innovative, and high-value work. The challenge lies in identifying which tasks to automate, understanding how they drive performance, and building the skills to unlock that potential.

Against this backdrop, learning becomes a superpower. Being able to learn quickly and adapt is now the cornerstone of individual and organisational success. Careers are no longer linear, they zigzag. Success hinges on flexibility, AI fluency, and adaptability to embrace what the future holds.

Innovation in action

Pearson supports people throughout their lifelong learning journey, from school and university to the workplace. That breadth gives us unrivalled insight into how people learn and how organizations can harness learning to build skills at pace.

We also know that real progress will require collaboration with partners who share our belief in the power of learning and see the potential of AI as a solution to a growing skills gap, not just a disruptor.

This is why we’re partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate innovation, scale personalized learning, and expand access to AI-driven tools for learners and educators. Together, we combine deep expertise in learning and technology to reach more people and give them the tools to succeed and shape the futures they imagine.

AWS has been a strategic partner for 13 years, enabling us to enhance and scale our products and services globally.  Together, we're creating solutions that improve experiences and outcomes for learners in clinical and professional assessments, enterprise learning, and English Language Learning.

By combining AWS cutting-edge AI and cloud capabilities with Pearson’s deep expertise in education and learning, we’re developing products and services that offer more personalized, accessible, and adaptive learning experiences for millions of people worldwide.

We’ve also had several successful collaborations already, including:

  • Smart Lesson Generator: designed with AWS, it creates lessons aligned with Pearson’s Global Scale of English (GSE) and course materials. More than 47,000 UK teachers have signed up, reducing planning time by up to a day a month.
  • Credentials and Testing Partnership: Pearson Professional Assessments to exclusively delivers AWS certifications for hundreds of thousands of cloud professionals each year, supporting the growth of a skilled digital workforce.
  • Virtual Learning: Pearson Virtual Schools and Connections Academy use AWS’s cloud infrastructure and Amazon Bedrock to deliver scalable assessment tools and personalized learning experiences for teachers. The partnership supports educators with tools that save time and improve teaching effectiveness. Like an AI-powered instructor tool that cuts custom assessment creation time by over 50%.

At AWS re:Invent, we’re showcasing how Pearson and AWS are shaping the future of learning – unlocking opportunity and empowering learners, educators, and organizations to thrive in a world where skills are the currency of success. As AI redefines roles and workflows, we will continue to collaborate on solutions that help people learn faster, adapt with confidence, and turn possibility into progress.
