Gold for Pearson UK in Investors in People accreditation
Investing in people is at the heart of what we do here at Pearson.
Our purpose is to help everyone achieve their potential through learning. This doesn’t just apply to the learners using Pearson products and services around the world; by investing in our people, we want to make work better, more productive and more rewarding. It’s good for our business, and good for the millions of learners we help every day.
That’s why we’re so proud to have been awarded Gold against the Investors in People standard in the UK, in recognition of our commitment to high performance through good people management.
Only 17% of Investors in People-accredited organisations achieve Gold, which makes this result even more special. Over 1,500 of our UK-based employees, and 2,000 Associates (who are contracted to examine, moderate and verify our general and vocational qualifications in the UK) took part in the re-accreditation process, helping Investors in People assessors build up a picture of life at Pearson.
In the report, employees highlighted our strong response to COVID-19, focus on wellbeing, efforts to drive a diverse and inclusive culture, and excitement for the future direction of the company. One colleague said: “There is a strong focus on health and wellbeing across the business, and people’s work-life balance is something managers and leaders are conscious of. I’ve felt so supported, especially during the last year. I’ve never worked anywhere where it’s not seemed like a job, but more of a family.”
Our Investors in People assessor added: “What has been apparent throughout this assessment, is people’s excitement around Pearson’s future ambition and strategy. There is a great deal of energy flowing through the business at the moment.”
Rod Bristow, President of Pearson UK, commented: “This is a huge achievement. It represents lots of hard work and commitment, as we’ve climbed steadily with each consecutive assessment – moving from Bronze to Silver, and now Gold. Over the past year, the world has faced unimaginable challenges. Our colleagues in the UK have met them head-on, with commitment, compassion and care. This result puts a gold stamp on what we already know – the people in Pearson have made this a special place to work.”
